CHILDREN WITHOUT PARENTAL CARE

In its early stages, Hope and Homes for Children Rwanda provided assistance to families of children-headed households, frail grandparents, and HIV-positive single-parent-headed households. Presently, Hope and Homes for Children Rwanda focuses on supporting children's transition from orphanages to family-based care, including children with disabilities. This is done in collaboration with the National Child Development Agency and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

CHILDREN IN VULNERABLE FAMILIES

Hope and Homes for Children empowers families, particularly those with children with disabilities, to achieve greater independence and self-sufficiency. The primary goal is to address the underlying factors that lead to family separation and the institutionalization of children. To accomplish this, Hope and Homes for Children employs the Active Family Support model to provide direct assistance to these families.

TEEN MOTHERS

Hope and Homes for Children Rwanda is currently implementing a project aimed at supporting teenage mothers in Kicukiro District. The assistance provided to these young mothers includes a range of services, including counseling, family mediation sessions to repair fractured relationships with their parents, financial support to initiate small income-generating activities, and skills development in marketable trades (such as tailoring, hairdressing, and mechanics) of their choosing. Also, we offer any other interventions inspired by their individual aspirations.

CARE LEAVERS

Hope and Homes for Children Rwanda supports a number of care leavers’ initiatives. This is to increase their participation in all matters that concern them and promote the possibilities to be mainstreamed in all development discussions. It is important to note that orphanages do not prepare their residents (children/young adults) for independent living skills or community life.
